When I read this article I was
not at all surprised. I see people
taking pictures of themselves all
the time. However, I can't say I go
around taking pictures of myself.
I don't think this article is directed
to all teenagers, because like myself,
I would rather take a picture of or
with my friends then to take a random
picture of myself. I also don't post
pictures of myself on the Internet other
people tag me in them. I beleive
in what the article had to say, that people
always post pictures that are suggestive
and shouldn't necessarily be on there. I
personally think facebook and myspace has
a negative impact on the whole picture taking
thing. I don't agree that it is helping people
"find there identity". I think it's a random place
where people feel they can be someone totally
different then they are in real life. Some of the
"self portraits" they take now I beleive they
would be embarrased I'd they were confronted
about in real life. I however will
get on facebook and chat with some friends, but
overall I think it has a negative impact.

Inspirations!

I always get inspired by looking at really old photographs. Such as I love seeing the different styles, trends, and how people acted. You can often tell someones personality by a photograph and I get different ideas through them. People in general inspire me. Often i find myself "people watching". I go and sit somewhere and just watch people.I get inspired by seeing how each person has a different personality and the way they talk and present themselves. Music also has a big impact for me when I'm working on an art project. If I work on something while I'm listening to pop, or rap, or r&b or something, I can't concentrate and i loose focus. I love listening to songs with meanings behind them, that you might not understand the first time you hear it. Regina Spector really inspires me. Her style of music is very different, and unique. I consider her a music artist because she has a certain style of music and she makes it her own. I always get inspired when I listen to her. Such as the song Music Box inspires me, because the first time you listen to it, it might sound weird and different, though when you listen to it again, you realize that she is actually putting herself into her song and making her voice as a music box. I think what inspires me the most is people because everyone is so different and they always give me ideas whether they realize it or not.

This class is already pretty stressful, but I think it will be worth it in the long run. I think the observational drawing will be easy to include, because I have so many oportunities to work on them. Not only am I taking this Art Portfolio class, but also a drawing class where we will also be doing observational drawings. The piece that will most likely be difficult for me, would be the figure drawing because there is so much detail in the subjects. Nothing suprised me about this list. They just want to make sure you have variety in your work. I will use the meduim paint for some of my pieces. I would really like to explore with the medium charcoal. As for now, I am thinking of showing my portfolio to Columbia Art Institute in Chicago, though I don't have set plans yet.
