When I read this article I was
not at all surprised. I see people
taking pictures of themselves all
the time. However, I can't say I go
around taking pictures of myself.
I don't think this article is directed
to all teenagers, because like myself,
I would rather take a picture of or
with my friends then to take a random
picture of myself. I also don't post
pictures of myself on the Internet other
people tag me in them. I beleive
in what the article had to say, that people
always post pictures that are suggestive
and shouldn't necessarily be on there. I
personally think facebook and myspace has
a negative impact on the whole picture taking
thing. I don't agree that it is helping people
"find there identity". I think it's a random place
where people feel they can be someone totally
different then they are in real life. Some of the
"self portraits" they take now I beleive they
would be embarrased I'd they were confronted
about in real life. I however will
get on facebook and chat with some friends, but
overall I think it has a negative impact.

I agree that it has an overall impact, however sometimes i do take random pictures of myself because i think i like to express myself through them:)But i do agree that this article is not directed to all teens, and i think in some ways these pictures can be so creative if used to show one's personality. The ones where the girls are just taking mirror pictures and scrunching their hair and everything are just stupid to me!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it today Facebook and myspace have a negative impact on self portraits. and i also think that some pictures people take of themselves should probably not be put on the computer for mass people to see. There are just things that need to be kept private and not out for the whole world to see, but I also think it is fine for people to post pictures of themselves with friends that is appropriate. i just wish that self portraits were not seen as the picture people put as their profile pictures.
ReplyDeleteNice job Amber. It really depends on how you look at it. In some ways it has had a negative impact, but in others a positive. As a photography teacher, I actually see much more creative self portraits in photography class because students have done all of the standard things typically found, and are ready to try something new.
