I think that I want to start exploring different textures with collages. For my next project, I want to use material. I was thinking that I would go buy some material, and die it to the colors and shades that I want and make a picture the same way I do with paper, just this time it would be with material. Although I haven't completely thought it through yet because I am not sure how to make all of the little pieces of cloth stick to form a picture. Obviously I cannot use Elmer's glue, because the glue spots on the cloth would look awful and there would be no way to hide it. I'm thinking I might try and stretch material over a canvas board and use that as my canvas and background so I don't have to put a lot of time and money into creating a background to go with it. I also really want to do a collage with beads...but i probably wont get to that because that would take an enormous amount of time. If any of you have any ideas for some different mediums I could use to get some different textures let me know!

  1. I think that other texture would be very cool! I also think you should try free-handing a design in pen and ink, and then add collage to it for color! : )

  2. I love the idea of using cloth in your collages, and i think you should try multiple different types to get many different textures, that would be interesting. and i'm pretty sure you can get scrap cloth from places that sell cloth for a lot cheaper than the normal price. You just have to ask if they have scraps. Also, you could maybe buy some old clothing at Goodwill and cut it up, that might be another cheaper solution. I'm excited to see what you come up with though!

  3. I think it's great that you're exploring different mediums. Try something really out of the ordinary like this one artist Ms. Mason showed us in 2D that would make collages out of bandaids and stuff. It was really cool.

  4. What if you even try different shapes with materials. Your collages could try to take forms just by using other shapes: geometric or organic.
